让我们先来看看我们在学校的学习，你发现了吗？学校中几乎每一科的知识都是通过阅读来学习的。我们必须先会读文字叙述的数学题，才能了解题意；如果我们不会读社会学科或科学学科的课文，就无法回答每个课后的问题；复杂的计算机，我们也必须先从老师那里读懂有关内容才能操作。接下来，让我们来看看以下这个定律，听起来很简单，虽不能说放之四海而皆准，但验证起来通常都是正确的：1.你读得越多，理解力越好；理解力越好，就越喜欢读，就读的越多。2.你读得越多，你知道得越多；你知道得越多，你就越聪明。反之，以下这个定律也成立：1.你读得越少，知道得越少。2.你知道的越少，越早辍学。3.你越早辍学，越早变穷，而且穷得越久。
